Pastor James Menzies, Phd
James Menzies has been pastor at PBC since 1989. He grew up in Perryville and has attended the church since a child. He received his B.A. in Bible and M.A. in Old Testament from Columbia International University in Columbia, South Carolina and studied at the Seminary of the East in Worcester, MA. He received his PhD in Humanities from Salve Regina University, Newport RI. Pastor Menzies is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society. Before coming to pastor Perryville he served two years at Maple Avenue Baptist Church in Newport, RI. Between 2001-2012 he also served as interim speaker at the Pawcatuck Seventh Day Baptist Church. In early 2015 Pastor Menzies started teaching adult ed classes in the OLLI (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute) program at the University of Rhode Island. He has taught “Belief & Bytes: Faith in an Age of Technology” and a study of his book True Myth: C. S. Lewis and Joseph Campbell on the Veracity of Chrisitianity. His publications are listed below.
Wayne Seekell came to Christ as a teenager in 1967 while attending a Christian camp. He graduated from South Kingstown High School in 1969 and has pursued various business enterprises before settling in at Nooney Controls Corporation where he has been for the last 30 years currently serving as Vice President. While working for Nooney he pursued his BA in Bible/Theology in Biblical Studies from Washington Bible College in Lanham, MD. Over the years Wayne has been involved in leadership in a number of churches where he has been a member and served as a Bible teacher, Christian Education director, deacon, and elder. Wayne has been married to his wife Pam for 40 years and they are blessed with 5 children and 14 grandchildren. The family home is in Charlestown.
Charlie came to know Christ as his personal savior in 1979 in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, while working for the Naval Oceanographic Office, and moved to RI in 1985. He has served as a Sunday School teacher and chairman and/or participant of numerous church boards and committees. After Hurricane Katrina destroyed much of Bay St. Louis he had the opportunity to return on several mission trips to help rebuild the homes of the daughters of the man who led him to the Lord. He currently serves as a church Elder and Sunday School teacher and is a member of the Gideons International Ministry. Charlie retired from the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, RI, where he worked on submarine design. He lives in Charlestown, RI, with wife Linda and has been recently blessed with a granddaughter.
